Do my letters of recommendation need to be submitted by the application deadline?

Each department has different deadlines and requirements for what should be received by the deadline. Some departments require all documents and letters of recommendation to be submitted by the application deadline. Other departments allow for supporting documents and test scores to be received after the application deadline.
